Hair transplant surgery, regardless of the technique used, is usually performed using local anesthesia to make you relaxed and comfortable. With local anesthesia, your scalp will be insensitive to pain. Sedation is used in some operations in addition to local anesthesia and the patient will be more relaxed during the operation.
General anesthesia can be used for more complex cases involving tissue expansion or flaps. If general anesthesia is used, you will sleep throughout the procedure.
